At Stroud Green Primary we see huge benefits in assissting you with supporting your child at home with their learning. There are a number of things we do to ensure you are well informed about what is going on in the classroom. You will receive a half termly newletter which will inform you about what the learning will be for that half term. If your child is in nursery or reception you can also view your childs online learning journal through Tapestry (details of which can be found here). Class pages also hold up to date information about the current curriculum being taught and you can find these here.
As well as all of the above we have a home learning strucure in place from reception to year 6. The documents at the bottom of this page set out the expectations for each year group. Here is an overvew of the whole school home learning activities:
In reception to year 2 children will get fortnightly maths homework to complete in their homework book. This will be linked to the maths they have been doing in the classrooms that week.
In Year 3 to 6, homework will be set though mymaths. Mymaths is online and teachers set weekly tasks every Friday linked to the learning happening in the classroom. Your child will have received a login from the school (You can also contact Beth Stickland should you require this again), You can dowload a guide with some FAQ below.
We also expect children to be regularly practicing their timestables at home. These are a key life skill and the expectations for these are:
|Year 1||Count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10. Recall and use all doubles to 10 and corresponding halves|
|Year 2||Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables, including recognising odd and even numbers.|
|Year 3||Recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 3, 4 and 8 multiplication tables.|
|Year 4||Recall and use multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12x12.|
|Year 5||Revision of all times tables and division facts up to 12x12.|
|Year 6||Revision of all times tables and division facts up to 12x12.|
In reception to year 2 children will get fortnightly English homework to complete in their homework book. This will be linked to the writing or phonics they have been doing in the classrooms that week.
In Year 3 to 6, children are expected to practice the spellings for the half term. Ms White holds a half termly Spelling Bee which has been very exciting and enjoyable so far this year! Keep an eye out for the winners on the newsletters.
We also encourage you to read with your child every day at home whatever year group they are in. This could be a book, newspaper, magazine, comic, website or anything else you have! Look out for our parent workshops on how to help your child read at home.
The wider curriculum
Our wider curriculum is taught through half termly topics. Once a term you will be given a title for an exhibition. These can be found on the class pages or curriculum newsletters This is an oppertunity for you to work with your child on an exciting project linked to their current topic.
