Welcome Miro Class 2018-19

Ms Maher

(Reception)

Starting school is a very exciting time and we know the children will enjoy and flourish in this important year. If you would like to know more about how we operate in Reception, please feel free to access the Early Years Board outside the classrooms. We are sure you will find this helpful in explaining the importance of the Early Years and the Characteristics of Learning.

During this half term our aim is to familiarise the children with the Unit, the adults and the other children. We will then settle them into their new routines, providing security to promote confidence and therefore enable learning.

There are seven areas of learning and development, grouped into two categories prime and specific areas. The prime areas are important because they lay the foundations for children’s success in all other areas of learning and of life.

Reading at Home / School Reading school (Oxford Reading Tree)

The Oxford Home School Reading Scheme home raeding starts at the beginning of October. The children will also select a choice book from school weekly to share with you. Choice books are powerful as they offer many speaking and listening opportunities around your child’s interests and inform our planning.  With the Home School book, we would recommend that you use practise reading with your child every night for a few minutes. Please encourage your child to talk about the pictures as well as  listen to the story. Even if your child is unable to read words it is important that you take this special time to gt your child to retell the story highlighting the beginning, middle and ending. A Reading and Phonics Workshop has been scheduled Thursday 11th October at the school and a Maths Workshop Tuesday 16th October both at 9am. We would love to see you there where you will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in activities you’re your child.

Tapestry - Online Learning Journals

For those parents who are new to Stroud Green you may not be familiar with our online tracking and communication system called Tapestry.  We are holding a workshop for parents on Tuesday 2nd October at 9am to explain how the system works and how you can get access to your child’s learning journey from your smart phone or computer
